ABOUT

Diamond Ranch Dance Academy

The dance program at Diamond Ranch High School is committed to rigorous and excellent physical training, personal reflection, and the critical analysis of dance and its relation to the world.  Our students grow as technicians, leaders, and responsible citizens, through self-discipline and the spirit of community.  As a dancer, you will be asked to engage in the skillful development of your body and mind.  This movement experience, which is designed to connect the physical act of dancing with the working mind, is intended to prepare dancers for life through movement.

COURSE CONTENT

Course Content

The major units of study for this class are Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary/Modern, Social/Cultural, and Hip-Hop
Dance. Students will also learn the history of all of these dance styles. Students will learn about and be able to
identify the major bones and muscles in the Skeletal and Muscular Systems, so that they become aware of how
their bodies are moving. They will also evaluate and reflect on their in class performances and live performances
in the community through writing. Throughout the year, students will utilize the choreographic elements (time,
space, and energy) to create their own works which will be performed in class. In turn, the teacher will facilitate
students’ efforts through constructive feedback and guide them through the choreographic process. Although
direct instruction will be given by the teacher (in all genres of dance), students are expected to think
independently and access prior knowledge to problem-solve.
